What is a Common Noun?

Common Noun a singular noun. But, it refers to the whole class or group. For example, ‘cat’ , ‘book’, and ‘city.’

When we say ‘cat’ here. We are referring to the entire cat family. And, when we say; ‘book’, we are talking about whole books. Similarly, when we are telling; ‘city’, we are telling all types of city but not a particular city. It means, common noun does not refers to a specific or particular person, place , or thing.
