A collective noun is the name of a collection of persons or things taken together and spoken of as a whole. It means a collective noun is a word or phrase that refers to a group of people or things as one entity.
Grammatically, a Collective Noun refers to a group of people or things as a singularity or one entity. So, when it comes to SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT, Common Noun always refers to singularity or one entity for which it takes a verb. But, some exceptions are always there.
